Orihime is a student at Karakura High School in Ichigo's class. She is a very heavy daydreamer, and this can sometimes make her seem a little flighty. Her best friend is Tatsuki, and she has a big crush on Ichigo. Her apartment number is 202, and she and her stuffed bear Enraku live there supported by relatives.

Orihime had a brother that was 15 years older than her. According to him, their parents were not very classy folk who were both neglectful and abusive. When he turned 18, he took Orihime and left. However, he died in a car accident when Orihime was 12. Ichigo first saw her when she dragged her brother to the Kurosaki Clinic following the accident. Unfortunately he died before he could be transferred elsewhere. Due to some jealousy issues, her brother turned into a hollow and tried to attack Orihime. However, Orihime and her brother worked through things, and he gave himself up to the shinigami. She now constantly wears the hairpins that he gave her.

At times she seems a bit spacey and gullible. Her vision of herself in the future includes a robotic body when missiles that fire out of her breasts, and one of her favorite shows is "Ghost Busters" when Don Kanonji. However, she is very sensitive to other people's feelings, especially Ichigo. Around the time of the incident with Don Kanonji, Orihime admits to Tatsuki that she has been kicked out of her apartment and is living in a hotel. During the television broadcast, she can hear the earthbound spirit wailing as it turns into a hollow.

Orihime performs very well in school, and was near the top of her year in exams. She is also a member of the handy-craft club with Ishida. After the incident with Don Kanonji, some spiritual power had awakened in Orihime. When forced to protect herself and Tatsuki, she discovers her power is manifest in some fairy-like creatures known as the shin shin rikka whom she calls upon to cast spells. Hinagiku, Baigon, and Lily form santen kesshun, or an outer shield. Shonou and Ayame form souten kisshun, or an inner shield. Tsubaki can split an enemy in two in an incantation called koten zanshun.

When Rukia is taken back to the Soul Society, Orihime is one of the few people that remember Rukia had existed in their world. She then trains with Chad under Yoruichi to heighten her abilities. During this time she tells Tatsuki she is going to stay with her grandmother. Orihime then becomes part of the rescue team that enters the Soul Society. In the Soul Society, Orihime proves herself more than adept at protecting herself and Ishida after they are separated from the rest of the group. Her friendly and outgoing personality have helped her and Ishida make their way through the Soul Society relatively safely.

Ishida is a Quincy, a person who fights allows. However, unlike shinigami, Quincys kill hollows, not purify them. Because of this, the Quincy were destroyed by the shinigami 200 years before. This was done to keep the balance of souls correct and keep the world from being destroyed. Ishida’s sensei and grandfather taught him to love all creatures, but he died without any shinigami there to help him. As a result, Ishida hates all shinigami.

In school Ishida is at thetop of his class in exams. He is also in the handy-crafts club with Orihime, and appears to be an excellent tailor. He is very sensitive to things of a spiritual nature, and he recognizes Rukia as a shinigami before anyone else knows. Ishida particularly dislikes Ichigo, and challenges him to a hollow killing competition. Using a giant bow and arrow made with his spiritual power, Ishida takes out many of the hollows he attracted to the area. However, when the Menos Grande appears, he is forced to form a temporary alliance with Ichigo. After this battle, Ishida realizes his sensei wanted him to help shinigami, however this doesn’t make his relationship with Ichigo any better.

When Renji and Byakuya come for Rukia, Ishida immediately comes to her aid. He becomes severely injured in the battle, but Urahara helps him. He then leaves, but he asks Urahara to help Ichigo, as he is the only one who can save Rukia. Ishida declines an opportunity to train with Chad and Orihime under Yoruichi, preferring to train on his own. However, he does travel to the Soul Society to try and rescue Rukia. While in the Soul Society he wears a glove that was given to him by his grandfather. It increases his power, but if he ever removes it he will lose his Quincy abilities. When the group gets separated in the Soul Society, Ishida ends up with Orihime as a traveling companion. They disguise themselves as shinigami to try and avoid fighting. In one battle however, Ishida is forced to remove his glove. It is unclear where his abilities stand




Zaraki Kenpachi

Zaraki Kenpachi is one of the most interesting captains in the Gotei 13, leading the 11th division. With spiked hair with bells at the end and an eye patch, one may not take him seriously at first. However, he is one of the mightiest and most feared captains in Seireitei. With his incredibly powerful fighting techniques, he heads the 11th division with a lust for fighting. In attaining his rank of captain, he accomplished the unprecedented—he attained this rank without even knowing the name of his Zanpakutou. By depending solely on his brute strength, he defeated and killed the previous 11th division commander without relying on his Zanpakutou for any strength, completing all of this in front of the rest of the Gotei 13. By defeating him in battle, Zaraki Kenpachi was entitled to the 11th division captainship.

Zaraki Kenpachi is a bit stronger than he lets on at first. The eye patch he sports over his right eye isn't just a fashion statement; it actually sucks his spiritual power from him as long as he wears it, limiting his enormous power for safety. When he removes his eye patch, his spiritual power soars, and he increases his already massive strength.

Zaraki Kenpachi's 11th division is known for their battle-oriented attitudes and fierce combat standards, always giving the fight everything they have. Zaraki Kenpachi almost fits this description too well, always wanting to test his skills against others (though others try to avoid his awesome power).

Kenpachi had a very lonely history, starting off in Area 80 of Ryuutamashiikai (the part of the Soul Society where most of the spirits live). One day he made his way to area 81, where he met his future partner, Yachiru. However, at the time, they were both nameless; they had no family to address them. After the nameless couple found each other, Kenpachi named his newly found companion Yachuri, the name of the only person he ever loved, and himself Kenpachi, given to the strongest shinigami of a generation. This began Kenpachi's and Yachiru's shared journey to become 2 of the most powerful shinigami's in Seireitei.

Kenpachi joins the Bleach storyline when Ichigo battles against him in Seireitei, trying to get through to save Rukia. As Ichigo tries to sneak around Seireitei undetected, Kenpachi tries to seek him out, not to catch him as an intruder, but to pit his skills against his own. When they finally meet, a long and gruesome battle ensues, finally ending with Kenpachi later conceding defeat—Kenpachi escapes, as Ichigo lay on the ground unconscious with severe injuries. During the battle, the only way Ichigo survived was through the joint effort of his might and the power of Zangetsu, his Zanpakutou. Kenpachi realizes as Ichigo interrogates Kenpachi as to how he had gotten this far without the help of his Zanpakutou After the battle, as Kenpachi was recuperating, he asks his Zanpakutou, "Now can you tell me your name?" after he realized how horrible it was to live a life without a name. His Zanpakutou remains silent, and Kenpachi boldly declares his desire to get stronger.

Later on, after listening to Orohime's testimony, he, along with other shinigami, decide to join up with Ichigo. He even fights against his fellow captains, Komamura Sajin and Kaname Tousen, because he believes in Ichigo and his friends. After the incident at the Soul Society was cleared up, it was evident that Ichigo and he had formed a strong relationship, as Kenpachi ran after Ichigo to spar.

Kon

Kon is a mod konpaku, or mod soul. Mod souls were originally created to possess dead bodies and fight hollows, however the project was scrapped after some shinigami felt this was unsightly. Mod souls were ordered to be destroyed, but one survived in the form of a small pill-sized ball. Mod souls can enhance an aspect of whatever body they possess, and Kon is no exception. He is an underpod, a mod soul who can enhance leg strength.

Kon waited day after day for his destruction, but he somehow ended up in some "Soul Candy." This is how he comes to possess Ichigo’s body for the first time. Knowing that his life is marked, Kon refuses to kill anything and merely wants to live his life. Urahara was going to destroy him, but Rukia took him instead. Rukia and Ichigo searched for a suitable host, and they finally decided on a stuffed bear. Kon has great affection for Rukia, calling her "sister" and declaring himself her disciple. He has a great dislike for Ichigo however.

Kon has a very fun-loving and relaxed personality. He is particularly attracted to girls, the bustier the better. He has very sensitive feelings though, and even goes so far as to leave Rukia and Ichigo when he feels they do not appreciate him. Kon ran into Orihime, got tossed around by three other girls in Ichigo and Rukia’s class, was chased by Chad, and was finally captured by Yuzu. He eventually returned to Ichigo's room a much happier bear.

Kon is often used to possess Ichigo's body while Ichigo is a shinigami. He dislikes doing this though because he finds that Ichigo is too serious. It's difficult for Kon to be that unhappy and worried for so long. When Rukia leaves for the Soul Society, she ties Kon up behind the toilet. Kon manages to interpret Rukia’s coded letter to Ichigo and explain that it must mean Soul Society trouble. Kon is currently playing Ichigo in the living world while Ichigo goes to rescue Rukia.





Kuchiki Rukia

Rukia is a shinigami from the Soul Society. She first appears in Ichigo's room while chasing a hollow, but when things go wrong her powers get transferred to Ichigo. Without her abilities, she is unable to return to the Soul Society and is forced to inhabit a gigai, or temporary body. Rukia then attends Karakura High School as a member of Ichigo's class.

Although her exact age is unknown, she tells Ichigo she has lived at least 10 times as long as him. She has various shinigami accoutrements including a cell phone that receives orders from the Soul Society, a device that can alter memories, and a glove that can separate someone's spirit from their body. Despite her long life, Rukia is rather naïve about many things in modern society (ie juice boxes). She learns current lingual trends from reliable sources such as horror manga. Rukia resided in Ichigo's closet while in the living world.

While waiting for her abilities to return, Rukia trained Ichigo in the ways of shinigami. According to her, she got top marks in her demon arts classes. Her personality varies depending on whom she is with. In front of her classmates she is demure and polite. When acting in her official capacity as a shinigami however, she is very decisive and assertive. Nothing is remotely shy about her then. With Ichigo, she often switches between wise sage and argumentative adversary at the blink of an eye. Their usual activity is to fight and yell at each other. Despite this, Rukia seems closest to Ichigo, and she shows a great deal of sympathy for him and his feelings.

When Rukia realizes she is becoming too attached to the living world, she quickly leaves Ichigo to protect him. Her childhood friend Renji and older brother Byakuya soon confront her. They tell her that she is to be executed by the Soul Society. She tries to prevent Ichigo from fighting them. However, when things go wrong for Ichigo, Rukia seemingly turns on him in an effort to protect him from Byakuya. She feels very guilty for dragging him into the situation, and sacrifices herself in an effort to save Ichigo. While in her various holding cells in the Soul Society awaiting her execution, she seems depressed but accepting of her fate.

A few things are known about her past. As a child, Rukia lived in one of the poorest parts of the Soul Society, area 78 of Rikongai. It was a very rough place to live, and crime was rampant. One day she helped a group of kids keep out of trouble. She became their spiritual leader and inspiration. One of the young men was Renji, and the two of them grew up together. They vowed to become shinigami together, but were separated 40 years prior to her meeting Ichigo by the Kuchiki family. The Kuchiki family was one of the noble families, and it wanted to adopt her. This would allow her to graduate early and become a member of the 13th division. She assented and got the family that she and Renji had wanted. Her relationship with her new older brother Byakuya however was rocky at best.

The Shiba family and Rukia herself feel she is responsible for the death of a fellow shinigami, Shiba Kaien. Rukia held a great deal of affection for Kaien, but he became possessed by a hollow. Rukia was forced to kill him to destroy the hollow. It is pointed out by Byakuya that Kaien and Ichigo share a certain resemblance.

Rukia holds a great deal of confidence in Ichigo, but she also feels that she has caused him a great deal of pain and changed his life forever. This causes her a great deal of guilt because she feels she can never make it up to him. As her execution begins, her final request is that Ichigo and the others from the living world be allowed to return safely. During the execution itself, her final thought is of Ichigo. When the smoke clears however Ichigo is standing before her, and it appears that Rukia may have just received a stay of execution.





Unohana Retsu


Unohana Retsu is the leader of the 4th division, known for their remarkable healing prowess. Although they have relatively weak fighting abilities, the 4th division's healing powers are invaluable to the rest of the Gotei 13; however, the other divisions fail to see that, so the 4th division medics are treated as weaker, inferior shinigami.

Although the 4th division is treated as a substandard team, Unohana Retsu is revered as well as any other captain. She has a more unique, passive ban kai in comparison to the other captains, yet her zanpakutou's power is well-suited for her job. Her ban kai summons a large, one-eyed, flying manta that commands mystical healing powers not yet fully known.

She is also a very gentle person, and is kind to all who receive her nursing care. Her placid attitude especially extends to her vice captain, Isane Kotetsu, and treats her as younger sister to guide.

Attack Kon! I wonder who told Unohana that the beard braid looks good?
